Keep Your Gas Chainsaw Running Smoothly

Gas powered chainsaws are extremely powerful tools. They need to be in peak operating condition. There are things that you can do to keep your saw in good shape. It will also help, to keep you safe from injury. Here are some helpful tips to keep your saw running smoothly.

Make sure that you are using the correct fuel ratio. If it is too rich, it can run bad and foul your spark plug. It may also make your carburetor dirty. If the mixture is too lean, your engine will not get enough oil. Some products like Husqvarna chainsaws, come with their own premixed bottles of oil. This makes it impossible to mix the wrong fuel ratio.

One of the most important things to check is your chain. Always examine the chain, before you start the saw. Chains will gradually loosen and dull, in time. Sharpen dull chains. Adjust the slack in the chain, when it needs it. Chain adjustment may vary from saw to saw. Read the operating manual to be certain.

Your bar will wear out too soon if you do not rotate it. This should be done every ten hours of operation. This is important to keep the bar wearing even. Under normal operation, the bottom of the chain bar will catch more wear. When you rotate it, you switch the top and bottom. Make sure that the bar stays clean also.

Your chain has an oil system. Oil must be allowed to get to the chain. Make sure that the holes are clean and free of debris. Sometimes, sawdust or twigs can get in the chain. This material must be removed. Too much debris can make the chain jump from the bar. It also will clog your oiling holes. If the chain cannot get lubrication, it will wear out quickly. After you have cleaned the saw, clear you work area.

You may be using an inside workspace. All of that saw debris contains oil. It can be a safety hazard. Make sure that you clean it up with something like a shop vacuum. Although a Dyson upright vacuum cleaner will work, shop vacuums are better equipped for the job.

Make sure that all bolts and screws are tight. Do this before every use. Your saw will vibrate as it runs. This can make things loosen.

Be certain that your air filter is not dirty. If it is, change or clean it. Some models like the Poulan chainsaw, may have different types of filters, than others. You may need to check the manual.

Conclusion

When you use a gasoline powered chainsaw, you operate powerful outdoor equipment. Proper maintenance will keep it running smoothly. It will also help you keep safe from possible injury.
